What Happened To Common Courtesy?

Imagine this scenario, if you can.

The above dog is but a picture, but for a moment pretend this is a real dog, and it is being mistreated, insulted, and ridiculed for no other reason than its breed or looks. It’s not a bad dog, but there are those who would take delight in inflicting pain, insults, and injury on this dog. Not only would they take delight in such acts, they would gang up on this dog and do as much physical and emotional harm to this dog they could, and walk away in smug self-righteousness with big smiles on their faces as the dog is lying on the ground mortally wounded and crying.

Would it surprise you to know this a scene that is being repeated across the nation on a daily basis, not to dogs but to people, and sadly, God’s creatures are being systematically brutalized for nothing more than their personal choices and value systems.  Essentially, they are being treated as the misfits of society.

No way! Don’t believe it? It’s absolutely true, and here’s why. The above dog with the sad look on his face is a Republican and voted for the 45th President of the United States, Donald J. Trump; therefore, he is a subhuman life form and worthy of any and all disdain and punishment that can be heaped on him.  Any questions?

Remembering 1863 (Black Lives Matter)

On 01 January 1863, with a single stroke of a pen, Republican President Abraham Lincoln UndergroundRailroadTunnelsCairo-280signed an Executive Order, The Emancipation Proclamation’, and forever changed the Federal and legal status of more than three million enslaved people in designated areas of the South from slave to free. However, the mere signing of a document cannot and does not alleviate people being held in slavery if they have nowhere to go.

Fortunately two factors were working simultaneously to assist those three million people in their pursuit; the Civil War was being fought on southern soil with regiments of Union Soldiers scouring the countryside with orders to assist runaway slaves, and  the establishment of ‘Camp Defiance’ at Cairo, Illinois, a very small town located at the southern tip of Illinois that aside from being a Union stronghold during the Civil War became the staging point for the Underground Railroad utilizing Union Troops, river barges, and the now defunct Illinois Central Railroad.

The operation was fairly simply, and completed in board daylight without much fanfare or protest. Slaves fleeing the South were picked up by Union Troops, and put aboard flat boats bound for Cairo where they were offloaded, and transferred to trains heading to Chicago. From there they could travel freely to Indiana, Ohio, Michigan, and Minnesota, or they could remain in Cairo if they so choose as it was a northern State, and many did thinking after the war they would return home or claim homestead land in Illinois that was being forecast.

This act of selfless courage to assist and assure the Black race endured has been forgotten over the years, but the undeniable truth is a white Republican President, white Union Soldiers, an early Illinois Railroad manned by predominately white workers, and a small Union Camp united to insure free slaves would indeed savor freedom. For this gift no payment or recompense was asked or expected. At that time, it was just the right thing to do, and the Union Soldiers, the Illinois Central Railroad, and ‘Camp Defiance’ were in the best position to accomplish the feat.

Although, it has been over a century since the Civil War was fought from 1861 to 1865, and Operation Freedom was accomplished to aid runaway slaves, in June 1998, Cairo City workers unearthed storage bins under the sidewalk along the 600 block of Levee Street, the site of the old Illinois Central Railroad Depot. In doing  so, they unwittingly uncovered the platform of the Underground Railway that boldly operated in that location, yet as if struck down by a migrant thought, Blacks have organized themselves into a militia to tell us something known in 1863, ‘Black Lives Matter’. Here’s a novel thought. We already know. Our forefathers invented that gig.

United Kingdom Declares Independence

banner-71125_960_720Today, 24 June 2016, will for ever more be  Independence Day for the United Kingdom because its citizens in a free election withdrew from the 28 country European Union. They did this because they said they are tired of bad trade agreements not of their making, tired of unchecked immigration flowing into their country, and they want borders. In other words, they want to once again be a sovereign nation creating their own rules and answerable to no one but themselves. If this sounds familiar, that would be because its the very same reason We in a act of defiance declared Our independence from the United Kingdom in the Declaration of Independence, a historic document drafted by Thomas Jefferson,  on 4 July 1776. It’s also the platform Donald J. Trump, presumptive Republican nominee, is running on; creating a sovereign nation with borders that makes wiser trade agreements.

Coincidentally, Mr. Trump was in Turnberry, Scotland with his two sons and one daughter for the ribbon cutting ceremony at his newest golf club, and Press from the United Kingdom appeared at site to interview him, and solicit his opinion on their decision. He gave it a thumbs up saying he was all for borders and free trade, and an hour later the Prime Minister of United Kingdom, David Cameron, in a temper tantrum, much like the Democrats at the Capitol throwing a sit down strike  over the defeated gun control Bills, announced he would be stepping down from power in three months because he would not be the one to officially sever the tie. Shame on him. Our President, Mr. Obama,  who took the bust of Winston Churchill out of the oval office, released a statement that said We support the voters, and still consider the United Kingdom a trading partner. Let’s be brutally honest here; without the United Kingdom there is no European Nation but a bunch of little countries wondering where the umbrella flew to.

Can we compare this to anything in Our 2016 Presidential Election? We can but be hopeful, but imagine this scenario. On a sunny day down the road, the United States shakes free of the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA), the agreement signed into effect by President Clinton on 8 December 1993 which plunged the industrialized States of America into total collapse. Now that would totally be a great day.
